I. KNOW THE TEST
30 minutes
10 minutes to transfer answers, and check answers and spelling (at the end of the listening)
40 questions (each question is 1' mark)
answer are always in order (Do the note-taking in order as well)
only 3 main types of question (gap-fill, multiple choice, matches)
get used to listening different accents (U.S, British, India, Aus...)
only hear the recordings once
II. 4 SECTIONS
(You need to practice each section a lot, until you could get high mark.)
Section 1:
two speakers
an 'every-day' conversation (travel, making a booking...)
one speaker may give basic information
simple gap-fill: miss details (names, addresses, dates, time, numbers...)
P.S. SECTION 1 is quite easy, you should get a high score (9/10) correct.
Section 2:
use all the break time at the end of section 1
one speaker only
a short speech about a non-academic topic (tourism, a park, local facilities...)
3 types of question (gap-fill, multiple choice, matches)
break in the middle (prepare 5 questions at a time)
P.S. SECTION 2 is still quite easy, you need to aim for a high score.
Section 3:
use breaks to read and underline the key words
2 or 3 speakers (2 main speakers, 3rd teacher/student) - academic
conversation related to education or training (e.g. tutor and student)
2 types of question (gap-fill, multiple choice)
multiple choice is difficult, you can use breaks in the head, underline keywords and listen synonyms
underline keywords in questions and choices
listen for keywords or synonyms (e.g. tutorial/seminar)
P.S. SECTION 3 is a difficult part, you could aim for 6 or 7. If you get 2 correct, there would be a mistake here.
Section 4:
use break time at the end of section 3 (There's no break in the section 4, so underline as many as keywords at the head of this section)

1 speaker only
speech about an academic topic
2 types of question: gap-fill, multiple choice
listen for keywords or synonyms
P.S. Difficulties: faster speech, more content, extra information
Key Techniques:
1. Using the breaks to read ahead
before each section starts
in the middle of each section (except in section 4)
at the end of each section
2. Reading the question for preparation
no read back and check - waste time
TIPS:
1. Read ahead (only check back the answer at the end)
2. Underline keywords (reading questions in the breaks)
3. Listen for keywords or synonyms
4. Be careful with spelling
5. Don't get a stuck on a difficult question - move forward
6. Concentrating for the full 30 minutes (do not miss the answer)
